In Memory of Grandpa St.Onge

"I wasn't very old when Grandpa St.Onge passed away, so what I knew about him is that he was a farmer. He seemed (by the pictures) to be a small and quiet man. And I have heard from meeting and talking to other people that lived in L'Anse, that he was a very giving man. One woman told me about how, when her father passed away, that Grandpa came over and planted a pine tree seedling in their backyard in memory of him. I know that this was also done for him, in the spot that he passed on too. I'm sure that he was a blessing to all that knew him. I always remember too, the picture of him as a young man that Grandma always kept near her bedroom in the hallway. A handsome young man wasn't he? We always commented!" ~Donna
My father-in-law was a very quiet man. Most of the time, he was smoking his pipe. He worked at Sacred Heart Church and rang the bells- I'll always remember the bells. He also worked at the Sacred Heart elementary school. He use to come across and visit us at lunch time when we were living in L'Anse where Margaret lives now. I think he liked being on the farm the best, where he could walk among the pine trees.~Helen
What I remember the most when we went up to the farm every summer, was how Grandpa would send all of the young grandchildren out to pick berries. He would give us a quart container and after we were out all afternoon, we'd bring it back almost full ( after consuming more than we put in! I was particularly partial to the raspberries), he would give us a nickel!! We thought that nickel was great! Grandpa sitting quietly in his rocking chair and smoking his pipe is the way I will always envision him in my memories. ~Debbie
